Aubrey Gladstone serves as the president of Gladstone Consulting, Inc., a problem resolution company specializing in aerospace, transportation, logistics, health care, employee leasing, and finance. In his time away from work, Aubrey Gladstone is a staunch supporter of Journey to Normal.
Journey to Normal is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the stories of women veterans returning from war through its upcoming film Journey to Normal: Women of War Come Home. The idea was spawned in 2009, when a female veteran described her rehabilitation struggles to Oprah, and the film has been in production ever since. Journey to Normal is comprised of numerous interviews, both across the U.S. and abroad in Kabul and other outposts.
Though the organization’s main goal lies in getting an audience for its film and advocating for the struggles of women veterans, Journey to Normal has plans beyond the film. The nonprofit will continue to add stories to the site beyond the release of the film and provide a valuable community for women vets returning from war. Journey to Normal also hopes to provide not only video installations at specific venues, such as schools, museums, and libraries, for educational purposes for the general public, but also a variety of outreach programs for employers and schools. The ultimate goal is to create awareness and “bridge the gap between civilian and military life.”

As president of Gladstone Consulting, Inc., Aubrey Gladstone oversees a successful firm that provides corporate restructuring, problem resolution, and litigation support services. He recently helped fund the production of the documentary Journey to Normal: Women of War Come Home.
Directed by JulieHera DeStefano, Journey to Normal documents the experiences of female combat veterans who served the United States during tours in Afghanistan and Iraq. To learn about the experiences and changing roles of women soldiers, DeStefano travelled around Regional Command-East in Afghanistan from December 2010 to April 2011 and interviewed more than 100 women serving the area.
After returning to the United States, DeStefano interviewed and filmed female veterans throughout the United States and began raising funds for what would become Journey to Normal, a feature-length documentary that was released nationwide in the spring of 2015. Today, the Journey to Normal team is working to create an online community where women veterans can share their stories and connect with those who have had similar experiences.

Journey to Normal: Women Come Home is a feature-length documentary that focuses on the experiences of women in the military and their readjustments to normal life after serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. It explores the rising involvement of women in the military, which has reached a new precedent in recent years with more women serving than ever before. Women in today’s military make up 15 percent of the total force and their roles now consist of many positions previously exclusive to male soldiers. More than 280,000 women served in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Goals of the film include the advancing of a deeper understanding for these individuals and to apply that understanding to professional services offered to veterans. In addition, it fosters public involvement in helping to meet the needs of veterans returning from service and cultivates a network that connects veterans to one another. Women veterans can also record their experiences in Journey to Normal’s video archive in order to share their stories for historic preservation and research.

The documentary allows women themselves to tell their stories, creating a narrative that seeks to blend societal conceptions of civilian and military culture.
